Before I had them, engagement photos always seemed like an unnecessary expense. Plus, I hate dressing up, trying to coordinate outfits, and doing my hair/makeup, so it seemed like a hassle. Our photographer included engagement photos in each of her packages because she felt they were necessary. Looking back, I am so happy we got our engagement photos done and here's why:

As the end of soccer season wraps up and baseball season begins, I wanted to show how I created easy splatter paint art. I made the Sporting KC one as a Christmas gift for a family friend and the Royals one as a birthday gift for my step-dad. This gift is easy to make and a great idea when you completely forgot you need to gift someone something and only have 48 hours to put something together. Plus, I wanted my 13 year old step-sister to be involved, and this was something that she could help with without my controlling/perfectionist nature wanting to strangle her.
I picked out my own engagement ring. Since I was going to be wearing it for the rest of my life, I wanted to love it as much as I love my now fiance.
When I started to look for rings, I went to one of my favorite online stores, Etsy. I noticed a lot of engagement rings on Etsy were moissanite, so I started to research the stone. I learned that moissanite was originally found in a crater left by a meteorite. Real moissanite is very rare; the stones included in rings on Etsy are lab created stones. (Both real and lab-created moissanite are much rarer than natural diamonds.) Moissanite is nearly as hard as a diamond; it is a 9.25 on the Mohs Scale where diamond is a 10 (for scale, sapphire is a 9 and emerald is a 7.5). What sold me was that Moissanites are more radiant than a diamond. I LOVE how sparkly my ring is. On sunny days, my ring shines a rainbow of lights onto my car ceiling. Note: This "Amiibo" cannot be used in a Nintendo Game. This "Amiibo" was created to entertain. The "Amiibo" is designed to look like our family and play a slideshow of our time together. It cannot be read by an Amiibo reader on any Nintendo device.
Many video game lovers (or video game lover lovers, as I am) have a few Amiibos if they have a Nintendo console. From a non-gamer's perspective, they are little figurines that look like video game characters and unlock certain items in Nintendo games. My fiance has several dozens of them that I get to designate a home for once we live together. And, with my loose understanding of what they are, I decided to make my own for our 4 year dating anniversary. So here is a tutorial on how to craft your own Amiibo. |
